Alkaline Diet Plan: Common Myths

The high alkaline diet just might be the ideal diet for the 21st century. If the low-carb approach was the hot diet of the 1990s, the alkaline diet plan now seems to be coming into its own. Unfortunately, many people still shy away from this diet because they believe various myths about it. In this article, I want to address a few of the most common myths, and show you how different the reality is from what you may believe.

First, many people believe that the alkaline diet is extremely restrictive. This often scares them off, because they think that if they follow an alkaline diet plan, they will have to give up all of their favorite foods. There some truth to this idea, but it really depends on the way you currently eat. If, for example, you currently live on fast food and soft drinks, you will indeed have to make some dramatic changes in order to have an acid alkaline diet for optimum health. However, this does not mean that you will have to resign yourself to a boring diet. You can still include some acidifying foods, and it is possible to create delicious meals and snacks out of healthy ingredients such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and nuts and seeds.

Second, many people believe that following an alkaline diet requires you to become a vegetarian or vegan. Again, there is some truth to this idea. Because nearly all animal products are acidifying, you will have an easier time achieving a proper acid-alkaline balance if you reduce your consumption of these foods. However, that does not necessarily mean that you must give up all animal products to have an alkaline diet. Instead, it just means that you need to moderate your consumption of these foods. The goal of acid alkaline diets is not to eliminate all acid-forming foods, but instead to achieve a good overall acid-alkaline balance.
