Acid Alkaline Diet Provides Big Benefits

As part of my continuing series of blog posts about the acid alkaline diet, today I want to talk about the unique health benefits of this nutritional approach. To many people, the word "diet" immediately conjures up thoughts of weight loss. However, the alkaline diet simplified is a bit different from most diets in that weight loss is not its primary purpose, but merely a very desirable side benefit. Therefore, the acid alkaline diet is not just for people who want to shed a few pounds to prepare for swimsuit season. On the contrary, it is suitable for people who are seeking a natural way to resolve many chronic health problems, or who simply want to experience more energy and vitality.

There are many causes of fatigue, including some serious medical conditions. Often, however, lack of energy is the result of poor sleeping patterns, a lack of exercise, or inadequate nutrition. Another factor that can cause tiredness is overacidity resulting from a diet that is rich in acidifying foods. Like everything else in your body, energy production occurs most efficiently when your body is in an optimal state of pH balance. And the best way to achieve a condition of acid-alkaline balance is to follow an alkaline diet.

Other important alkaline diet benefits include a decreased risk of bone loss and muscle wasting, especially among older adults whose kidney function has decreased, and who therefore have a reduced ability to eliminate excess acid. Eating a standard American diet can lead to the build up of acid in your tissues, causing your body to react by pulling alkaline minerals from your bones and muscle tissue. Not surprisingly, the best way to prevent this from happening is to reduce your acid load by eating plenty of alkaline diet foods.
